Health and Housing: Opportunities for Collaborative Planning to Meet Community Needs

June 13, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am

Virtual Event Virtual Event

Housing plays a critical role in the health of individuals and communities, influencing outcomes through multiple pathways including housing affordability, stability, quality, and neighborhood conditions. Despite these connections, housing and health practitioners may work in silos and miss opportunities to partner on local planning efforts that address the needs of the same, often under-served communities.

This webinar will focus on opportunities for housing and health stakeholders to leverage local planning processes in order to advance health, housing, and equity goals in localities. The session will include a presentation of potential planning processes for local cross-sector collaboration, including community health needs assessments and fair housing assessments. Panelists will discuss strategies for implementation and provide examples from communities across the country.

Co-hosted by the National Fair Housing Alliance through the Keys Unlock Dreams Initiative and the Housing Solutions Lab at NYU Furman Center.

Panelists will include:
Debby Goldberg, Vice President of Housing Policy and Special Projects, National Fair Housing Alliance
Angela Mingo, Director of Community Relations, Nationwide Children’s Hospital
Joseph Schilling, Senior Research Associate, The Urban Institute
Sandra Serna, Director, Office of Health Equity, Virginia Department of Health

Moderated by: James Hardy, Senior Program Officer, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
