Homeownership has always been a part of the American Dream. Homeownership provides stable environments, it is essential for wealth-building, and grants greater access to quality education, employment, and resources.
However, deep inequalities remain between those who achieve the dream of homeownership, and those who face historic disenfranchisement, making their pursuit to homeownership nothing more than that – a dream.
Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated significant barriers and inequities to homeownership for people of color and for aging millennials.
Dr. Svenja Gudell, Chief Economist of Zillow, provided NFHA with her research on the latest housing market trends, the historic disenfranchisement of homebuyers of color, and solutions to creating an equitable economic recovery from the COVID-19 Pandemic.
